I hold the James and Mary Wesley Chair in New Media at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where I have been a professor since 1991. I am also a guest professor in Computer Science and Media Technology at Malmö University in Sweden. I work internationally in the design of New Media educational programs and research initiatives for digital media.
In my research, I study the history and current state of our media culture; I also work with Maria Engberg and Blair MacIntyre to create new media experiences (in Augmented and Mixed Reality).
I teach in the GT graduate program in Digital Media and the undergraduate program in Computational Media.
I am frequently invited to lecture in Europe and North America.
In 2011, I spoke at ISEA 11 in Istanbul on "The Digital Plenitude and the End of Art." This topic, the status of art and culture in an era of digital media, will be the subject of my next book, whose working title is The Digital Plenitude. The book will be published by the MIT Press in the Spring of 2019.
I am also co-authoring a book with Maria Engberg and Blair MacIntyre on Reality Media (AR and VR) to be published by MIT Press.
